Description:
This workshop seeks to enhance the multicultural competencies, advocacy skills, and clinical skills of play therapists who work with Latine families. Through video-clips and discussions of clinical cases, attendees will learn specific cultural and linguistic considerations applicable when working with Latine children and their parents.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify at least 3 ways to make their services and playroom culturally responsive to Latine children.
- Participants will be able to discuss at least 3 cultural considerations when working with Latine children in play therapy.
- Participants will be able to identify at least 3 oppressive factors that affect the Latine population and their impact on the mental health of children and families.
- Participants will be able to integrate at least 3 advocacy skills into their conceptualization and treatment plan when working with Latine clients.
- Participants will be able to identify 2 specific linguistic considerations when providing play therapy to bilingual children
- Participants will be able to identify 3 specific cultural considerations to integrate in their parent consultation with Latine parents

Theoretical Orientation: Child-centered
Tentative schedule: 9:am – 4:30 pm
- 9am-10am – Understanding of the experiences and mental health needs of Latine bilingual children
- 10am-11am – – Understanding of the experiences and mental health needs of Latine parents
- 11am-11:15am - Break
- 11:15am-12:15pm – Explanation of CCPT concepts and skills
- 12:15pm-1:15pm - Lunch
- 1:15-2:15 – Adaptations of CCPT skills when working with Latine bilingual children and parents
- 2:15-3:15 - Adaptations of CCPT skills when working with Latine parents
- 3:15-3:30 - Break
- 3:30-4:30 Case conceptualization and skills application
Cancellation Policy
Nonrefundable fees: There is a $35 nonrefundable fee for administrative costs associated with processing each payment.
Cancellations: Written cancellations received two weeks prior to the start of the training will receive a refund minus the nonrefundable fee. Cancellations within two weeks of the training, after the training, or no shows will not receive a refund.
The Institute for Play Therapy reserves the right to cancel a seminar if there are fewer than 14 professional participants registered as of 7 days before the start of the seminar. In the case of cancellation, we will refund registration fees in full or the participant can choose to apply funds towards an alternate seminar.
