Ethical issues in working with children in play therapy - will be rescheduled for Fall 2025
We will discuss some unique aspects of the ethical code in working with children and families in play therapy. The Ethical Code of the American Counseling Association will also be reviewed as it pertains to play therapy. As will APT best practices.
Objectives:
- Describe the unique ethical requirements of providing play therapy with children of divorced parents in Texas.
- Define competency as is explained in the ethical code and how that applies to subspecialties such as play therapy.
- Identify the client in working with children in play therapy as explained by the Code of Ethics.
How do I make this work? Treatment Planning in Child Centered Play Therapy (Afternoon)
Treatment planning is an important aspect of a therapist’s clinical skills, however many struggle in writing treatment plans from a Child Centered Play Therapy perspective. A common belief is that there are aspects of the Child Centered philosophy that are inconsistent with the real-life requirement of treatment planning. Join me in this hands-on workshop and learn to write a treatment plan from a Child Centered Play Therapy perspective AND we will have fun- I promise!
Objectives:
- Participants will state 3 reasons that theory is important in guiding our work in play therapy.
- Participants will state the basic tenets of Child Centered Play Therapy Theory.
- Participants will write a treatment plan from a Child Centered Play Therapy Perspective.
Tentative Schedule:
- 9:00-10:30: Ethics- unique aspects in working with children
- 10:30 - 10:45: Break
- 10:45-11:30: Ethics- Unique aspects of working with divorced parents
- 11:30-12:30: Lunch
- 12:30-2:45:Importance of theory, Child Centered Play Therapy Theory, Why treatment planning
- 2:45-3:00: Break
- 3:00-4:30: Treatment planning experiential
Date: Will be rescheduled for Fall 2025
Time: 9-4:30 CST (Participants will pay for both seminars – two for the price of one!)
Location: Education Building at Texas State University
CE Credits: 6 contact hours: APT Categories: 3 ethics, 1 theory, 2 treatment planning
Price: $250 (professionals) and $150 (students): Only full-day tickets are available.
Cancellation Policy
Nonrefundable fees: There is a $35 nonrefundable fee for administrative costs associated with processing each payment.
Cancellations: Written cancellations received two weeks prior to the start of the training will receive a refund minus the nonrefundable fee. Cancellations within two weeks of the training, after the training, or no shows will not receive a refund.
The Institute for Play Therapy reserves the right to cancel a seminar if there are fewer than 14 professional participants registered as of 7 days before the start of the seminar. In the case of cancellation, we will refund registration fees in full or the participant can choose to apply funds towards an alternate seminar.
